Coordination in sport can be defined as the ability to perform a sequence of movements safely, effectively and efficiently. For running this will engage the senses, muscular contractions and joint movements. For some people coordination maybe a complex skill whilst for others it is a simple skill. Having good balance will help improve coordination.

This is a skill that can be improved with practise and should not be overlooked by runners. Some coordination exercises that can be practised include: backward walking lunges, grapevine, circling arms in opposite directions etc.
